How
I got my life back
Through
Jesus
CHRIST
One
August morning in 1972,
while living in Guyana
I had a fever and was trembling
voilently. It was about 4 AM when my dad gave me 4 non-coated aspirin
in the hope that the fever would subside. During that day I had no
apetite and ate nothing. This continued until 3 days later when my
mom urged me to just force myself to eat some food.
A
few minutes after eating, my stomach felt very heavy and I threw up
all that I ate plus a liberal coating of fresh blood. The following
day she took me to the hospital where I got some medicine. When we
returned home I took a tablet and a mouthful of tea. In no time I
threw it up and more fresh blood.
For the
next several days I went without food or liquid. By day ten after
taking the aspirin I sensed my parents concern and even saw my mom
crying. On day 12 my mom made barley soup and gave me one tablespoon
to drink. To their relief the soup stayed. After that she fed me one
tablespoon at about 4-hour intervals and gradually increase the
quantity the following day.
About a week
later I went to fetch her a bucket of water. As I was giving her she
started to cry and said that she had been afraid that she would have
lost me.
In
February, 1976 at about 8:10 AM, while preparing cash for deposit at
an insurance company where I worked, robbers invaded the building.
One bandit had to get past me to the money and Iwas chopped with a
machette. I scaled the enclosure to run out of the building and heard
another instructing a third to shoot me before I got out of the door.
I dropped to the floor and laid there until all was quiet. My hand
was split in two between the ring and middle fingers down to the
wrist and was bleeding profusely. By the time I received medical
attention I lost consiousness.
By an act of
miracle the wound healed and I regained about ninety percent use of
my hand.
I
suffered a
heart attack in 1996 while riding. I did not know what the almost 4
hours of pain was and did nothing about it. When the second one
happened in 1997 it was just as severe, but I was still ignorant of
what was happening to me.
The third
one occured in 1998. I visited a doctor but he did not tell me why I
was having the pain and prescribed some medication. I noticed that a
slight exersion would cause pain in the heart and shoot up into my
left arm. I could not make more than about 50 steps without causing
the pain. I had to be motionless for a couple minutes before moving
on.
In
September, 1999 I had the fourth heart attack while servicing an
engine. This was more severe than those incidents before. I was
rushed to hospital and taken in intensive care. I realized then that
it was only a matter of time before death would visit. I signed my
own discharge to be at home to spend the remaining days with my
family.
Meanwhile,
my wife asked my sister in the US to buy me a ticket to New York so
that I might get help. I was reluctant to spend the money that we had
as I felt the effort would be futile, but I took the trip on 14
December with Jesus beside me.
The
Bangladeshi doctor that saw me told me that I had less than 2 weeks
to live. I was admitted to the hospital and he asked another Doctor
from India to help. The Surgeon performed the operation which lasted
at least eight hours. Two days later I woke up to see the entire team
of the operating room around my bed. I told the surgeon thanks, but
he advised me to give God thanks.
The
cost was more than US$180,000.00. Someone paid the bill but I never
found out who it was..
In
June 2002, I needed a few thousand dollars
for the closing cost of our first home, but had none. The call from
the lawyer came at midday. I went into my room, knelt beside my bed
and sought the LORD JESUS' help, but a voice within me said to get
out of the house.
I got into
my beat-up old Camry but did not know where to go. I ended up at my
cousin's workplace and related my predicament. His earnings was not
that great and did not have spare cash. I needed the money by 4:00 PM
that day. After a couple hours he remembered a friend who ran a
business and gave him a call. The friend agreed to help. I then
called the lawyer's office to let them know that I would be there
before they closed for that day.
