What
does it take to earn the favour of our Lord Jesus?
Become
as a child
Num
12:3
(Now the man Moses was
very meek, above all the men which were
upon the face of the earth.)
Num
12:6
And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I
the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and
will speak unto him in a dream.
Num
12:7
My servant Moses is
not so, who is
faithful in all mine house.
Num
12:8
With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in
dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold:
wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
The
Great Commission
Mar
16:15
And he said unto them, Go
ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mar
16:16
He
that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned.
Jesus'
delegation of His authority to Believers
Act
1:4
And, being assembled together with them,
commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait
for the promise of the Father, which,
saith
he,
ye
have heard of me.
Act
1:5
For
John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the
Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Act
1:6
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying,
Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act
1:7
And he said unto them, It
is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father
hath put in his own power.
Act
1:8
But
ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Mar
16:17
And
these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they
cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar
16:18
They
shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall
not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall
recover.
The
sanctification of man and his wife
1Co
7:1
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It
is
good for a man not to touch a woman
1Co
7:2
Nevertheless, to
avoid
fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman
have her own husband.
1Co
7:3
Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise
also the wife unto the husband.
1Co
7:4
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and
likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the
wife.
1Co
7:5
Defraud ye not one the other, except it
be
with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and
prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your
incontinency.
1Co
7:6
But I speak this by permission, and
not of commandment.
1Co
7:7
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath
his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after
that.
1Co
7:8
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if
they abide even as I.
1Co
7:9
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to
marry than to burn.
1Co
7:10
And unto the married I command, yet
not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her
husband:
Fellowship
for strength and encouragement
Isa
45:20
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that
are
escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood
of their graven image, and pray unto a god that
cannot save.
Isa
45:21
Tell ye, and bring them
near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this
from ancient time? who
hath told it from that time? have
not I the LORD? and there
is
no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there
is
none beside me.
Isa
45:22
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am
God, and there
is
none else.
Isa
45:23
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in
righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall
bow, every tongue shall swear.
Isa
45:24
Surely, shall one
say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even
to him shall men
come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
Isa
45:25
In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall
glory.
Rom
14:11
For it is written, As
I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue
shall confess to God.
Who
Is God the Son?
Dan
10:5
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man
clothed in linen, whose loins were
girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
Dan
10:6
His body also was
like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his
eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to
polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a
multitude.
Dan
12:5
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on
this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the
bank of the river.
Dan
12:6
And one
said to the man clothed in linen, which was
upon the waters of the river, How long shall
it be to
the end of these wonders?
Dan
12:7
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was
upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his
left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it
shall be
for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished
to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things
shall be finished.
Mat
1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother
Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found
with child of the Holy Ghost.
Mat
1:19
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man,
and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her
away privily.
Mat
1:20
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear
not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in
her is of the Holy Ghost.
Mat
1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins.
Mat
3:13
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized
of him.
Mat
3:14
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and
comest thou to me?
Mat
3:15
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer
it
to be so
now:
for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.
Then he suffered him.
Mat
3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the
water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat
3:17
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom
I am well pleased.
Joh
14:2
In
my Father's house are many mansions: if
it
were
not
so,
I
would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh
14:3
And
if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive
you unto myself; that where I am,
there
ye
may be also.
Joh
14:4
And
whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Joh
14:5
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how
can we know the way?
Joh
14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I
am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me.
Joh
14:7
If
ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from
henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
Joh
14:8
Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth
us.
Joh
14:9
Jesus saith unto him, Have
I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou
then,
Shew
us the Father?
Joh
14:10
Believest
thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words
that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that
dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Joh
14:11
Believe
me that I
am
in
the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very
works' sake.
Joh
14:12
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and greater
works
than
these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Joh
14:13
And
whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father
may be glorified in the Son.
Joh
14:14
If
ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do
it.
Joh
14:15
If
ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh
14:16
And
I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that
he may abide with you for ever;
Joh
14:17
Even
the
Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him
not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you,
and shall be in you.
Joh
14:18
I
will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Joh
14:26
But
the Comforter,
which
is
the
Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
Jesus
has made it simple for us to have our needs met.
Mat
6:25
Therefore
I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or
what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is
not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Mat
6:26
Behold
the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor
gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not
much better than they?
Mat
6:27
Which
of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Mat
6:28
And
why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Mat
6:29
And
yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
Mat
6:30
Wherefore,
if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to
morrow is cast into the oven,
shall
he
not
much more
clothe
you,
O ye of little faith?
Mat
6:31
Therefore
take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink?
or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Mat
6:32
(For
after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly
Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Prayer
for our own edification
Mat
6:6
But
thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast
shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father
which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat
6:7
But
when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen
do:
for
they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat
6:8
Be
not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things
ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Pray
for the sick and those in need
Act
3:2
And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they
laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to
ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Act
3:3
Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
Act
3:4
And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
Act
3:5
And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Act
3:6
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have
give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and
walk.
Act
3:7
And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him
up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Although
it is important to pray for someone who is in need, it is very
difficult to determine what some of those needs may be. If we should
ask our Lord to meet the request of an individual and that request
does not conform to the judgement of Jesus, our prayers will not be
answered.
Jesus
who knows all things and the hearts of all persons, will not grant a
request which may be harmful to be used for an unrighteous purpose.
The seeker may then feel that his time was wasted or that there is no
basis for any dependance on devine intervention.
For
this reason, as servants of the Lord Jesus we should consider the
request made and encourage the person to understand what a need is
according to Matt. 6:25-34. By allowing a person to have a vane
expectation it is possible that we may create doubt about his
decision to accept Jesus as Lord and savior.
